The fourteenth annual Documentary Film 红杏直播app at 红杏直播app City University will conclude at 2 p.m. April 22 with Sara Terry鈥檚 鈥淔ambul Tok.鈥�
The screening is free to the public and will be held in the Kerr McGee Auditorium in Meinders School of Business at N.W. 27th Street and Blackwelder Avenue. It is sponsored by the Thatcher Hoffman Smith Endowment Fund.
The series title, 鈥淎ftermath,鈥� comes from the title of a poem by Pulitzer prize-winner Claudia Emerson, who will give a reading at OKCU April 4.
The documentary 鈥淔ambul Tok鈥� explores Sierra Leone鈥檚 civil war, with victims and perpetrators coming together for the first time in tradition-based truth-telling and forgiveness ceremonies. By reviving their ancient practice of fambul tok (family talk), Sierra Leoneans are building sustainable peace at the grass-roots level.
Some of the documentary鈥檚 most powerful scenes include a bonfire where a rape victim pulls her perpetrator out of the crowd to hear his confession and apology; a dramatic meeting between two previous best friends, the first time they have spoken in 17 years; and when a haunted man admits to killing his friend鈥檚 father.
