Biography
Sarah Jo Smittle, soprano, serves as a member of the adjunct voice faculty at ºìÐÓÖ±²¥app City University.
Mrs. Smittle received her Master of Music in Opera Performance from ºìÐÓÖ±²¥app City University with high honors. She graduated Summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Stephen F. Austin State University. During her time at these universities, Mrs. Smittle studied voice with renowned teachers Dr. Catherine McDaniel and Dr. Deborah Dalton. She is an alumni member of Mu Phi Epsilon, where she served as President of her chapter. She is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and the American honor music society, Pi Kappa Lambda.
Before teaching at ºìÐÓÖ±²¥app City University, Mrs. Smittle taught private voice and Intro to Diction at ºìÐÓÖ±²¥app State University. She also taught courses in diction, vocal pedagogy, and private voice at the University of Science and Arts of ºìÐÓÖ±²¥app.
Past students of the Smittle Studio have gone on to pursue successful careers in film, music edu-cation, stage plays, musicals, and operas. Others have received talent awards, become semi-finalists at NATS, and are often cast in university productions. She enjoys working with her students in all genres.
Mrs. Smittle has a budding performance career. Past role credits for the soprano include Iolanthe in Iolanthe (Cimarron Opera), Presendia in Dark Sisters (ºìÐÓÖ±²¥app), Lolette in La rondine (ºìÐÓÖ±²¥app), Big Sister in The Hiding Tree (Spotlight on Opera), Rosabella in The Most Happy Fella (SFASU), Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors (SFASU), and Suor Genovieffa in Suor Angelica (SFASU). Mrs. Smittle has also been featured in various opera scene programs. The soprano has been featured as a soloist at the Northern ºìÐÓÖ±²¥app College performance of Carmina Burana, St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in ºìÐÓÖ±²¥app City, and in choral concerts at ºìÐÓÖ±²¥app State University.
