Ensemble Placement Auditions

Wind Band and Symphony Orchestra Auditions

Instrumental Chair Placement Auditions for the ºìÐÓÖ±²¥app Wind Ensemble, Wind Philharmonic, and Symphony Orchestra occur the Sunday before ºìÐÓÖ±²¥app begin each semester.  

Audition music is posted on the and audition times will be posted before the start of the semester. Sight-reading is required for all auditions. All percussionists will be asked to audition on snare, mallets, and timpani. 

Assignments for Wind Ensemble, Wind Philharmonic, and Symphony Orchestra will be posted the morning following auditions. Pit Orchestra assignments will be posted as well. Non-major students interested in auditioning for wind bands or orchestra should submit the following form:


Jazz Ensemble Auditions

Auditions for jazz ensembles are held during the first week of school each semester on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4 to 6 p.m. in Large Rehearsal Hall. 

A prepared jazz excerpt and sight reading will be requested. Improvisation experience is helpful but not required. Jazz auditions may involve an informal jam session.

Students interested in participating in a combo should communicate this with the jazz director at any point in the audition process.

Students interested in jazz ensembles must sign up for an audition slot - a printed list of slots is typically posted outside of Large Rehearsal Hall (Bass Center A110) in advance of auditions. 


Choral Placement Auditions

The Choral Placement auditions Schedule will be announced shortly before the start of each semester. Incoming freshmen and transfer students audition during Orientation Week each August. Materials and musical examples are shared shortly before each semester.

A prepared example will be provided when you schedule your audition time. The audition also includes general vocalizing and sight-reading.
